 USAGE NOTE: HUNDRED GRAMMAR Singular and plural forms of the number words dozen, hundred, thousand, million and billion are all used in the same ways. When one of these words follows a word showing number or amount, it is not put in the plural and does not have of after it: a/three/several hundred years (NOT three hundreds of years)| ten million people | a few dozen eggs | about fifty thousand miles Where there is no other word showing a number or amount, the plural is used: He has hundreds of books (NOT He has hundred of books.) It will cost thousands of dollars (=I do not know how many thousand exactly).
